Breaking News: Senate House elected new speaker

Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, a former Federal MP, has won the election as Somalia’s first Senate after receiving majority votes against his rival opponent in the capital Mogadishu on Sunday.

About 50 Senate members have cast their votes among the candidates, which saw the election of Abdullahi for the Senate Speaker, according to the poll results.

Abdullahi won the senate leadership after obtaining more 42 votes.

The defeated opponent, Mustafa Mohamed Qodah managed to nine votes.

Abdullahi served as a minister in the breakaway Somaliland government.

The House is about to start the election of the two deputies.
