Candidates for Upper House leadership present speeches today

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Members of the Upper House of the Somali Federal Parliament are meeting in Mogadishu today to listen to speeches by candidates vying for speaker and deputies’ slots in the house.

A total of 12 candidates vying for speaker and deputy speaker posts including ex-speaker Abdi  Hashi are expected to deliver campaign speeches to the members of the Upper House beginning today until Sunday.

Registration of candidates for the post of Speaker of the House of the People was completed on Friday, ahead of today’s speeches. 

The Upper House is expected to pick a speaker on April 26, while election of Lower House speakers will take place on April 27, with completion of the process expected to usher in the country’s presidential elections.
