At least three people have been killed and three others injured in a car bomb explosion at the entrance of Interior Ministry headquarters in Mogadishu.

The explosion which could be felt from a distance tore through a police checkpoint at metres away from the Interior Ministry in Sayid area which is also short distance away from the Lower House buildings.

A car bomb loaded with explosives went off shortly after 4.30 local time barely a week after a similar blast hit Wehliye hotel along Maka al Mukarama road killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 20 others. Several vehicles around the area were destroyed in the attack

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the militant group Al-Shabaab has conducted such attacks in the city including last week’s.
