Al-Shabaab militants have detonated a car bomb at a checkpoint in the outskirts of Mogadishu with possible casualties feared.

Sources have told Goobjoog News the explosion went off at a checkpoint in Sinka Dheer area in Kahda district. The explosion comes amid reports in the past few days of a vehicle loaded with explosives within the city.

Al-Shabaab launched a twin assault in Mogadishu last week killing over 30 people and injuring several others.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
