Civil society calls for cease fire in Galkaayo

Civil society members has called for an end to fighting which has so far claimed more than 30 lives in Galkaayo town in the past one week.

Director of Local NGO, SSWC , Amina haji Elmi said that the fighting had caused unnecessary deaths and suffering to many families in the town.

“I am unhappy with the fighting in the town  and we are looking for ways to cease the fighting erupted between the two neighbouring state. The sides should first stop the fighting and then solve their conflict at negotiating table”  she said.

She added “The clerics are very important in bringing lasting peace to the town and creating a good future for this people. It’s important to maintain the unity of the people in this town.”

She called on leaders in the town to resolve the differences for a common good of the area, saying the leaders in the area should unite and ensure that their reconciliation meetings become fruitful for the benefit of their people.

The clashes between Puntland and Galmudug have so far claimed many lives and displaced more than forty thousand people from their homes.
