CJ Suleiman fired, replaced by Somaliland’s Waddani party chief executive

Chief Justice Ibrahim Idle Suleiman has been relieved of his duties after serving in the post for two years in what President Mohamed Farmaajo said was a move to reform the judiciary.

President Farmaajo appointed Baashe Yusuf Ahmed to lead the judiciary and called for efficient service delivery and transparency.

The decision to replace Suleiman, the President said was informed the need to reform the judiciary and based on concerns raised by members of the public regarding the delivery of justice in the country.

“Responding to the pledge to establish a transparent and fair judicial system, I have appointed Chairman of the Supreme Court of Somalia Mr. Baashe Yusuf Ahmed. I hope the new Chief Justice will fulfill his duties,” President Farmaajo said.

Prior to his appointment, Ahmed was the Chief Executive Officer of Wadani Party in Somalilland.

Suleiman who was Somaliland Attorney General was appointed by former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud May 4, 2016 to replace them Chief Justice Aidid Abdullahi Ilkahanaf.

President Farmaajo called on Parliament to expedite legislation on the formation of the Judicial Service Commission to ensure the full functioning of the judiciary.
