Constitutional review team holds consultative talks with Puntland state assembly

Parliamentary Constitutional Review committee Tuesday held consultative talks with Puntland state assembly and civil society on the review process.

Federal Constitutional Affairs Minister Abdi Hosh who was part of the team said the meeting aimed at bringing on board all the stakeholders in line with the roadmap agreed to by the Parliamentary Oversight Committee, the Independent Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission and the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs last year.

“We shared with the state leaders and assembly members the roadmap of the constitutional review completion and the agreed tripartite work plan by the two constitutional and implementation bodies and the ministry signed in the presence of the Somali PM Khaire in order to complete the law review within 2018 as agreed upon in the recent Somali National Security meeting,” said Hosh.

On his part, Puntland Constitutional Affairs Minister Abdifatah Said Aynab the talks signaled transparency in the activities of the review organs.

“The constitutional committee in parliament and the Upper House earlier met with the civil society and today we welcomed them to the state assembly presided by the state deputy president. They came to consult with us in order to exercise transparency on their activities by increasing discussions on the work plans with federal member states to clearly outline the roles each one has to play,” said Aynab.

The visit which took two days also included meeting with the state civil society.
