A court in Puntland sentences a police five months in Jail for possessing illicit Alcohol

A court in Somalia’s northeastern State of Puntland has sentenced a police officer after being found guilty of illegally trading alcohol in Garowe.

The officer who was arrested two months ago during thorough operation against drug by the police, was sentenced to five months in Jail.

Nugal Commissioner, Abdirashid Mohamud Hussein, in Garowe town said the officer was arrested in operation against drugs  and cartons with containing bottles of beer was found from his home.

” The officer was found guilty, after long investigation, a court found him of possessing liquor, which was packed in 12 cartons,” said Hussein.

All kinds of alcohol are forbidden under the Somalia laws, which are all subject to Islamic Sharia.

Those who found the use, sale and distribution of all kinds of alcohol and other drugs are arrested for long term jail and their belongings of the alcohol being burnt down or destroyed.
