Curfew imposed on Mogadishu ahead of Presidential Election on Sunday

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: As the clock ticks down to Election Day in Somalia, the country’s Police Force Command has announced a curfew on Mogadishu from 9:00 pm tonight, until Monday morning, 6.00am.

Speaking to the media, Somali Police spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan urged the Somali people to remain calm and tolerant during and after the presidential election.

The spokesman said that all roads in the city and shopping malls will be closed until Monday, May 16, adding that security forces were on high alert to ensure the security of the country.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Election Committee has called on all presidential candidates to submit their nominations to the Commission before 12.30pm today, failure to which candidates will not be allowed to enter the election venue on time.

The much-anticipated Presidential Election is set to take place on Sunday in Mogadishu at the Aficio Tent, with a record 39 candidates set to face off against each other for the hotly contested presidential seat.
