Dahir quits Somali presidential race, joins list of three others

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Presidential candidate Dahir Mohamud Guelleh has on Saturday announced his withdrawal from the Somali presidential race, a few hours to the election on Sunday. 

A statement on his Facebook page announced his withdrawal and thanked his supporters and fellow parliamentarians.

“I officially announce that I am not running for the presidential election of the Federal Republic of Somalia in this election, and I will continue my efforts to direct and develop Somali politics. I am especially grateful to the parliamentary candidates who stood by me closely during our campaign,”said Dahir Mohamud Geelle. ‎

The former information minister becomes the 3rd candidate to quit the Somalia presidential race a day after two other candidates, Abdinasir Abdulle and Abdikarim Guled also withdrew and threw their weight behind Wadajir party leader and presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur.
