The death toll in Dayah hotel twin attack in Mogadishu has climbed to 14 with fifty others injured, Internal Security Minister Abdirizak Mohamed has said.

The Minister added no government officials or MPs were injured in the attack dispelling fears that newly elected MPs had been victims of the attack which the militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility.

“Ten people were killed and 50 others injured in the attack. Our security forces managed to kill all the attackers,” said Mohamed.

Four Al-Shabaab militants were killed after they attempted entry into the hotel.

The hotel caught fire and locals could be seen taking items from shops next to the hotel as fire fighting teams struggled to put off the fire which had started on the upper floor.

The explosion happened a day after both Houses of Parliament converged in Mogadishu to choose a Presidential Election Committee which will oversee the election of a new President.

Today’s attack is the second since the beginning of the year. Al-Shabaab attacked Peace Hotel near the airport early this month killing over twenty people.
