GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The death toll in the Sunday evening bombing in Mogadishu’s Shibis district has risen to 10, Somali government has said while condemning the attack on civilians.

A statement from the Ministry of Information noted that the attack at a restaurant near Juba Hotel in Shibis district killed 10 people and injured dozens.

“Once again al-Shabaab has proven that their violence has no bounds and will kill indiscriminately. Al-Shabaab only strives to cause pain destruction and chaos. These ideals have no place in a free Somalia,” the statement read in part.

According to sources near the area, a suicide bomber detonated a device inside the busy restaurant in the evening blowing up the tea shop and killing and maiming customers.

The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility. This is the second major attack within a month in Mogadishu. At least 15 people were killed on June 15 during an attack at General Degaban military training camp in Mogadishu.’
