GOOBJOOG NEWS/HARGEISA: UK delegation of MPs led by former defence minister Gavin Williamson who sponsored a motion to recognise Somaliland landed in Hargeisa today in what is seen a boost to the campaign for international recognition of the break-way region.

The lawmakers accompanied by the head of Somaliland mission to the UK Abdi Abdillahi Hersi  were received by the Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr  Essa Kayd.

The delegation is expected to hold various meetings with President Muse Bihi and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Interior.

The meetings will discuss the acceleration of Somaliland recognition, Somaliland-UK diplomatic relations and future cooperation between the two regions.

The UK parliament held a debate on 18th of January 2022 about the political recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state.

However, following the agitation for recognition of the Horn of Africa’s break-away state, the UK said it was up to Somaliland and the Federal Government of Somalia to decide on their future.
