Deni moves regional police chiefs in continuing shakeup

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GAROWE: Puntland president Abdullahi Deni has made changes within the police force in a continuing restructuring of the security sector in recent days.

The changes announced by the Puntland leader Sunday evening affect regional police commanders, ports police and the presidential guard.

Brigadier General Omar Abdi Elmi now takes charge as  head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), of the Puntland Police Force while Mohamud Silal Omar was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF)

Current Bari police commandant Hussein Ali Mohamud was transferred to Nugal region in the same capacity while Gen. Abdulkadir Jama Dirir who served as head of presidential moved to Bari region as the police commandant.

Other changes include the appointment of Brigadier General Warsame Ahmed Shirwa as the head of Bosaso Port. Nugal Regional Police Commander Mohamed Aden Jama and PMPF Deputy Director Ahmed Yusuf Ahmed were sacked in the new changes.

Mohamud Silal Omar now becomes the Deputy Director of the Puntland Maritime Police Force.

The changes come barely a week after Deni removed Puntland police boss Hassan Abdi Yare.
