Dispute Resolution Committee declares El-Wak and Garbaharey elections illegal

GOOBJOOG NEWS/The Federal Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee has issued a statement declaring the parallel by-elections in Garbaharey and El-Wak as illegal.

The committee stated that the elections in the two towns are circumventing electoral agreements and procedures as outlined by the National Consultative Forum on October 1, 2020.

The committee also called on the National Electoral Consultative Forum to intervene and come up with a lasting solution to the ongoing impasse that has marred Garbaharey and El-Wak elections, warning that the Dispute Resolution Committee will not take part in legalizing the Gedo election process until a political agreement is reached by the leaders of the National Consultative Forum.

The statement from the Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee follows a statement from President Farmajo declaring the elections in Garbaharey and El-Wak illegal and violating the Indirect Elections Directive passed by both Houses of the Federal Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
