Eight civilians killed in IED explosion in Bulo Burde, Hiiraan region
GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIIRAAN: Eight people from two families were killed in a landmine explosion in Bulo Burde, Hiiraan region Sunday.
Sources said the victims, seven men and one woman were killed after an autorickshaw they were travelling in drove into an explosive improvised device (IED) as they headed back to their homes from the farm in Ji’ibow area of Bulo Burde district.
Bulo Burde district commissioner Saadam Abdi Idow confirmed the incident to the media.
“These people were a family who came from their fields on a three-wheeled motorcycle and they were hit by the explosion and they died,” said Saadam Abdi.
Amo the dead were a father and his two sons.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear but it is believed the IED was part of the remnants left by the militant group Al-Shabaab after it was pushed out by a joint Somali National Army and Community Defence Forces offensive.
