Eight more people succumb to COVID-19 in Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS|SOMALIA: Eight people have succumbed to COVID-19 pushing the cumulative death toll to 858 as infection rates remain below 100 for several months now.

According to the Ministry of Health report on Tuesday, 64 people tested positive for the disease bringing the number of people who have contracted the disease based on government records to since March 2020 to 1,105.

Banadir region which encompasses the capital Mogadishu recorded the highest cases at 55 while the remaining nine cases were from Puntland. A further 24 patients recuperated from the disease adding the number of recoveries to 7,661.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Somalia now stands at 15,929. Meanwhile, Somalia received 108,000 doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine last Sunday from France.
