GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: As the country goes through a tight parliamentary election process, revelations have emerged from the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) saying  that its members have not been paid their dues from November 2021 up to date.

While speaking to BBC Somalia, Ahmed Aden Dagaal Ahmed Safina, the spokesman for the Commission said that members had not been paid their dues for the last 3 months, affecting the smooth running of the Commission’s activities.

The Spokesman further said that financial assistance for running the elections has not been forthcoming as such, rendering operations difficult and yet money had been set aside for the process.

However, the Commission’s spokesman has denied some social media reports alleging that the Commission’s board members had been given a few days to vacate their premises due to failure to meet expenses.

The above revelations comes amidst a rush to beat the February 25th timeline set by the National Consultative Council which sought to conclude elections by the stipulated date.
