GOOBJOOG NEWS|ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he will soon launch a new military operation along the southern border to fight the threat of terrorism.

The main goal of the operation will be to resume efforts to create a safe 30-kilometer (20-mile) zone along Turkey’s border with Syria, said the Turkish President without elaborating.

Erdogan said operations would begin once the military, intelligence and security forces have completed their preparations.

Erdogan’s statement came amid Turkey’s objections on Finland and Sweden becoming NATO members, accusing them of harboring individuals linked to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and followers of a cleric Turkey accused of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016.
