FAO hands over modern boats to Puntland administration

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have handed over 12 fishery boats to the Ministry of Fisheries and Resources of Puntland to revitalize the work of fisheries cooperatives operating in the Puntland Coast.

The CCAP project manager at the FAO Somalia office John Purvis, spoke at the event when the Puntland Ministry of Fisheries took over the boats.

“These boats are another support from the EU-funded CCAP project that works to develop the fisheries sector that links gold prospects along the Somali Coast, as well as providing valuable employment opportunities to the coastal youth with valuable fishing nets. ” said, John Purvis.

Puntland’s Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Abdiqani Geelle Mohamed said his administration committed to ensuring the boats are involved in generating income and opportunities for young people, thanking the FAO and the European Union Reiterates their continued support for the development of Puntland fisheries.
