GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Senate first deputy speaker Abshir Ahmad has lashed out at President Mohamed Farmaajo noting him and his team cannot be trusted to deliver a fair and just election.
Speaking during an ongoing consultative meeting with Presidential candidates in Mogadishu, Ahmad said there was need to review the electoral process to ensure a credible and acceptable outcome.
“The current government of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo cannot be trusted with the electoral system that the country needs” Ahmad said adding to increasing voices demanding the recomposition of the federal elections team.
His remarks echo that of the 14 presidential candidates who have demanded the president drops names of civil servants and security agents appointed to the federal polls team. The candidates also made a similar demand on Jubbaland and Puntland leaders over appointment of civil servants to their respective elections committees.
The deputy speaker who also represents Galmudug state in the senate urged the various groups among them religious leaders and civil society groups to press on for reforms noting ‘Somalis support you and have confidence in you.’
