Former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said that the outgoing President, Mohamed Hussein Farmaajo, has no concrete plans to hold the elections.

Addressing the media Friday Mohamud who addressed Farmaajo as the ‘president whose mandate has expired’ said Farmaajo, out of his own volition had given the Prime Minister the security and elections mandate in May and it would be insane of him to rescind such a critical decision and reclaim his powers.

“You dismissed the Prime Minister at a time when election discussions were on the table. That action and what is happening today clearly indicate that you do not have a solid plan for elections. The Somali people observe that your words and actions do not match”.

The former leader further urged Farmaajo and friends allied to him to desist from worsening the situation in Somalia and if they do not have the country at heart, to at least care for what the future holds for them. He also called on the National Armed Forces to uphold security during this crucial electioneering period and to examine who they take orders from. And to the Army commanders, he advised them not to involve themselves in political issues and desist from interests that can harm civilians.

The UPD leader also urged his predecessor to be remorseful about the death of  Ikran Tahlil Farah, the murdered NISA spy agent.  “Mr. President, support justice as you took an oath to reinforce justice. So assist the grieving family in their quest for justice. It is both a religious, constitutional and moral obligation to do so. Let your conscience move you, Mr President.”
