GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The national intelligence agency, NISA has said Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud appointed by outgoing president Mohamed Farmaajo has ‘taken office’ in what could further heighten tensions in the country as Prime Minister Mohamed Roble directed his appointee General Bashir Gobe to report to work this morning.

“The new NISA interim commander, Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud, took office at the National Intelligence and Security Command,” NISA said in a tweet at mid-morning.

It was not immediately clear if General Gobe made his way into intelligence headquarters in downtown Mogadishu. Roble called on NISA staff Tuesday night to ‘fully work’ with the new interim director.

However, that seems not to be the case as per the announcement by NISA via its official Twitter account. Farmaajo returned Fahad Yasin to Villa Somalia Tuesday after the embattled spy chief resigned amid a push-pull between Farmaajo and Roble.

Villa Somalia announced Tuesday night that Yasin would take up the role of National Security Advisor.
