Federal MP Abdisamid Mahmoud denies Dhusamareb visit derailed peace efforts

Federal MP Abdisamid Ma’alin Mahmoud has refuted claims their visit with the Federal Parliament Speaker Osman Jawari to Dhusamareb in Galmudug was aimed at derailing peace efforts in the region.
Speaking to Goobjoog News, Mahmoud said instead their mission focused on reconciliation and peace building in Galmudug.

Galmudug on Thursday issued a statement condemning the Speaker’s visit to the state warning of risks of instability and break down of dialogue between Galmudug state government and the moderate Islamist groupd Alhusuna Wal Jama’aa which has been at loggerheads with Galmudug state.

“We went there to listen and understand the viewpoint of the administration as well as the residents of the region” said Mahmoud.

Addressing the concerns of Galmudug state, he said the speaker of the parliament went there after he received an invitation from the administration of Dhusamareb. “It’s the responsibility of the parliament to go everywhere of the country and to listen the concerns of the residents,” added Mahmoud.
The speaker Saturday said Alhusuna was willing to talk with the Galmudug state but in a quick rejoinder the group said it was not in any talks with Galmudug state government.

Abdisamid Malin Mahmoud was the former interior minister of federal government and maintains close relations with Alhusuna Wal Jama’aa.
