GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The chairperson of the Federal Electoral Commission Muse Guelleh Yusuf and members of his team held a meeting last night with UN representatives and international election donors in Mogadishu.

The meeting underscored the need to hold timely and credible parliamentary elections in accordance with the recent National Consultative Assembly guidelines.

The Chairman of the Federal Electoral Commission brought the meeting up to speed on the ongoing House of the People elections and the efforts the Commission is putting to ensure that it delivers a timely and credible election.

The international community representatives on their part, called on the Commission to keep up with the current pace and see to it that the country’s elections are wrapped up by February 25.

Somali International Donors, had in November last year, set tough conditions on funding of the country’s Lower House elections noting among other items, that they would only release funds once the elections were seen to be progressing in a “meaningful and credible way”.

Somalia is currently undergoing a tight election schedule following a series of delays, prompting the international community to voice its alarm over the crisis for fear of instability as the country continues to battle the Al-Qaeda-linked terror group, Al-Shabaab.
