At least five youths have been arrested while on their way to join Alshabab who fights in the Southern Somalia.

The suspects were arrested by Anti Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) of Kenya. The youths are aged below twenty years and hail from Tulluroba and Chechelesi locations in Isiolo County.

County Commissioner George Natembeya said the suspects were in two groups when the arrest took place.

“Three of them were arrested along Isiolo-Garba-Tula road while other two were arrested at Bute in Wajir County’’ he said.

Kenyan security officials said Alshabab is capitalizing on the holy month of Ramadan to secure youth who are susceptible as new recruits though the country is very alert on this move.

Alshabab has many times attacked Kenya with deadly outcome while Kenyan military are stationed in Somalia to limit its attacks and revive its receding tourism industry which Kenya says is due to insecurity posed by terrorist groups.
