 Former Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis died

Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has expressed his condolences over the death of former Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis, who died last night.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of H.E. Girma Wolde-Giorgis who served as FDRE President from 2001 to 2013,” he said in a statement today.

President Girma Woldegiorgis served the Ethiopian Government for twelve years as President and has performed various state duties throughout the country in different capacities for many years.

He rendered his service to the people and the country through his knowledge and experience with an exceptional sense of service and determination, making him a role model for many.

“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of H.E. President Girma Wolde-Giorgis and to the People of Ethiopia,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the former President will be laid to rest in a state funeral.

The details will be shared soon through a national committee that has been set-up to oversee the memorial service, it said.
