Former HirShabelle state president to vie for a federal political seat

Former Hirshabelle state president Ali Abdullahi Osoble is contending for a seat in the federal House of People after it was vacated by MP Mohamed Ali Sanbalolshe when the latter was appointed as head of NISA in April, 2017.

Osoble, who has already traveled to Jowhar, the state capital for the first time since he was impeached and ousted by the state assembly members on 14th August 2017, was warmly welcomed by local government officials including state MPs, traditional elders among others.

He stated his desire for the seat noting his expectation that the election process will be carried out in a free manner and a productive person to be chosen.

“As you aware, I am a candidate from the tribe I hail from and hope it will be conducted fairly. I hope it will be won by someone who is beneficial to his people. I was persuaded by many to vie for this seat. We need to work [for the people]” said Osoble.

The election is expected to take place this Sunday in Jowhar town and he is facing several opponents including Sanbalolshe.

Mid August 2017 Osoble was relieved of his duties as state president following an impeachment motion by the state assembly where the lawmakers accused him of violating the state constitution, failing to consult them in key decisions and abuse of office among others.
