Former lawmaker wants ministers not picked from among MPs

Storyline:National News

Former Somali parliament member, Awad Ahmed Ashara called on Somalia’s newly appointed, Hassan Ali Khaire not include his cabinet the current MPs.

“Unlike in previous administrations where the premier appointed ministers from the existing Members of Parliament through a process that was quite opaque the new prime minister should appoint the cabinet from outside parliament through thorough vetting,” said Ashara.

Ashara predicted that the prime minister will be approved by the parliament as was appointed by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

“I strongly believe that the new prime minister, Khaire will be approved by the House because he was appointed by the president who has the support of Somali people,” said Ashara.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo will today present his pick for premier Hassan Ali Khaire to the House for approval as he seeks a speedy formation of new government to address immediate challenges such as the ongoing famine.

Khaire who hold citizenship was born in Somalia in 1968, and has been recently living in London, UK.

Khaire resigned from his job as the executive director for Africa last week, to allow him to take up the job of prime minister.
