In a late night attack on his Mogadishu residential house near Jazeera hotel by Somali government special forces, Abdirahman Abdishakur was finally detained after a deadly crossfire.

Speaking to VoA, MP Abdifatah Gesey who was present in the house when the attack took noted how the operation underwent.

“Abdishakur, some youths and I were present in his sitting room when we heard noises from outside. Then a blast of heavy gunfire followed which went on for almost 40 minutes and we took cover. I think he was injured on his left hand. Later we heard a voice from the soldiers to come out which we responded to and we were searched.”

It is alleged that almost 5 of his security staff were killed in the attack. No casualties have been made public so far on the government soldiers.

Abdishakur was a former minister for national planning and international cooperation and was among the presidential candidates who took part in the elections held in February.
