Four people killed and two others injured in separate attacks in Mogadishu

At least four people been killed in separate attacks in Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu, the latest in string of attacks targeting city’s residents.

Two Somali soldiers were killed in a drive-by shooting in Wadajir district by gunmen who pulled up near her car in another vehicle, said Wadajir district commissioner, Ahmed Abdulle Afrah.

Eyewitness who declined his name in fear of reprisal said the gunmen have been following the officers before they opened on his car.

“The officers were killed in Wadajir district, after gunmen in vehicle blocked their car’s route and sprayed him with bullets” he said.

In a separate incident on Satuday, witnesses said one person was killed and two others injured in drive in the city after the attackers travelling in a car sprayed bullets on the car carrying the three.

Meanwhile one person was killed after he was caught in the crossfire, during a shootout between members of rival units within the Somali army in Bakara market.

This comes barely two days after gunmen killed six people in a drive-by shooting, including two Turkish hospital workers.

“Six civilians, two of them Turkish nationals, have been killed, and six more were wounded,” said Abdifatah Omar Halane, spokesman for the Mogadishu city authorities. The shooting took place late Wednesday, and those killed also included the driver and security guards of the Turks.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killings but Al-Shabab has carried out similar attacks in the Somali capital, which it increased since AMISOM and SNA troops flushed the group out of Mogadishu..

Since the group was pushed out of the capital, it has carried a number of assassinations and suicide attacks in which it targeted government and security officers.

Al-Shabab was pushed out of the Somali capital Mogadishu in 2011 but still controls some rural towns, especially in the southern parts of the country.
