Galkayo: 200 blended police force completes training

A ceremony for the passing out for over 200 mixed police force of Puntland and Galmudug neighbouring federal states has been held yesterday in Galkayo town.

The event was attended by top military officials from the two states including the commander of Puntland army Brigadier General Said Dheere, federal commander of 21st armed forces General Abdullahi Iro, heads of the regional authorities, representatives from Amisom and UNSOM and traditional elders from the region.

Addressing the event initially, madamIlhan from the political office of UNSom encouraged the new trainees to show their prowess in keeping peace in the volatile centre region of the country.

“Speaking on behalf of UNSom political office, I pass their greetings the UN country representative Diplomat Michael Keating. I also passing my gratitude to the interim federal police commander for his logistical support. Also want to advise the mixed up soldiers since today is such a special one, you have to prove to be a strong foundation for peace in the central part of Somalia” said Ilhan.

In the same juncture, commander of Puntland army Brigadier General Said Dheere warned the locals not to utilize their clan armoury.

“Don not dare and do the mistake of using arms you acquired through donations by your clans against the federal forces. We have legal weapons given to us by the national government and we are expecting more in future” exclaimed Commnader Dheere.

General Iro underscored on the importance of peace which is a base for human survival. “It is great pleasure for us to meet here today working on the matters relating to our existence which peace is the foundation for living and its absence means no life. I am sure your training will have good effect on the situation in Galkayo town.”

Speaking on behalf of the local authorities, the state financial minister of Puntland, Said Siyad who stressed on the need for this new force to stabilize the Mudug region, exercising unity and shunning clan emotions.

“If you share [security] information nothing will go wrong and I am sure you are capable of ensuring stability in Mudug. We experienced tribalism and its negative effects. Only unity can make us exist through clear concise” he concluded.

The new trainees displayed a parade in front of the official guests.

Early August, the states formed joint peace security forceto keep security in their volatile regions according to the state leaders.
