Galmudug to fill up two remaining senate seats on Saturday

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: Galmudug state parliament will vote for the remaining two Senate seats on Saturday following the release of the much-delayed list of candidates.

State president Ahmed Qoorqoor released the list Tuesday following calls from Prime Minister Mohamed Roble and the international community for the speedy conclusion of the exercise.

Veteran politician Abdi Hassan Awale aka Qabydiid will be contesting with Awil Nur Ali in the first seat while Abdi Osman Hared will battle it out with Mahad Adan Guled for the second seat.

The first six senators were elected on August 18 but without any competition after rivals withdrew from the race.

The election of the remaining two senators will mark the end of the exercise which commenced on July 29. Lower House elections are expected to start soon.

Prime Minister Mohamed Roble ordered the election committees at the federal and state levels Tuesday to immediately commence the Lower House elections and conclude by December.
