Government troops kill 12 in Al-Shabab attack, Bay region

Government troops kill 12 Al-Shabaab fighters in Bay region about 18 kilometers from southwest state capital Baidoa in an attempt to attack the Somali National Army Base.

The commander of the 60th Division of the Somali National Army, Brigadier Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi told government media that 12 al-Shabab militants were killed in Bay region.

“The military was aware of Al-Shabab attacks and prevented as we resist the attackers,” the commander said.

This attack comes after Al-Shabab officer identified as Ibrahim Mohamed Roble who was responsible for Al-Shabab tax collector in Walawayn district captured following another senior Al-Shabab intelligent chief Hassan Suley seized in operation joint by SNA and AMISOM in Jannale area last week.

In a separate statement, Al-Shabab also claimed that four soldiers were killed in the attack on the army base in the Bay region.
