Storyline:National News

Outgoing Galmudug president Ahmed Haaf has dismissed the newly released list of 83 state MPs by the Elections Committee noting the selection process was directed by the Federal Government.

Haaf said in a statement all those behind the lists will be ‘held accountable’. The embattled Galmudug leader who has for the longest been involved in run-ins with the Federal Government warned that ‘What happened in Galmudug is a sign of what will happen in 2021,” referring to the presidential and parliamentary elections slated for later this year and early 2021.

His latest statement follows a similar one Thursday in which he condemned the Federal Government for ‘putting pressure on the elders’ tasked with selecting the MPs adding Mogadishu had ‘doctored’ the list.

Galmudug State Technical Elections Committee Friday released a list of 83 MPs out of the requisite 89 noting the rest will be unveiled in due course.

Next will be the election of the speaker of the new parliament to pave way for the election of a new president. Mohamed Omar Gacal, an employee at the Office of the Prime Minister is touted as likely candidate to be elected Speaker of the new assembly.
