Hundreds of youth demonstrate against drug trafficking and abuse

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Hundreds of youth demonstrated Saturday on the streets of Mogadishu protesting against abuse and trafficking of drugs in the country.

The youth marched to the statute of Daljirka Dassoon in Boondeere District where they expressed support for the government’s anti-narcotics war especially in Banadir region.

Banadir region youth Chairman Abdikafi Mahmoud Makaraan said the youth will continue standing with the Federal Government of Somalia in the war saying they are the most affected by the vice and challenged the entire Somali community to also support the efforts to eliminate drug and substance abuse.

He further challenged the youth to shun temptations to abuse drugs saying the habit is detrimental to their future ambitions and that of the country as they hold the nation’s future in their hands.

The Federal Government of Somalia has declared war against drugs and called on all citizens to participate in fighting the vice saying drug trafficking and Al-Shabaab are both equally a treat to the stability of the country.

The Governor of Banadir Region who doubles up as the Mayor of Mogadishu, Sheikh Yusuf Hussein Jimale Madale said that operations against drug trafficking and AS will continue in Mogadishu.

“Those who use drugs, those selling them and those who bring them to the country are all equally guilty. We cannot accept those habit to continue. Drugs contribute to insecurity in the country. There are drug addicts who don’t even know they are committing crimes and killing people,” the mayor said.
