International Community Urges Galmudug New Leadership to Start Talks with Puntland

Storyline:National News

Cabdikariim Xuseen GuuledJust hours after the results of Galmudug presidential election were out, the international community including UN, IGAD, AMISOM, AU, The EU and The United States of America has came out strong supporting the new leadership of Galmudug.

They however urged the new president Abdikarim Hussein Guled and the Vice President Mohamed Hashi Araby to consider talks with Puntland in order to end the border dispute already brewing between the newly established State and Puntland which has been in existence for more than a decade.

Puntland has denounced the formation of a state whose border runs inside their territory according to the provisional charter of Galmudug which set the border line at Burtinle. In an apparent swipe at Galmudug, Puntland President Abdiwali Ali Gas has since said that their border is at Guri El, right at the centre of Galmudug territory.

The international community has also urged the Federal Government to respect previous agreements with Puntland over the border issue.

They also reminded Galmudug state of opening talks with Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamah, the Islamic armed group which seized control of Dhusamareb, the designated capital city of Galmudug.
