We focus on the stories which make the headlines in the respective Federal states and Somaliland aided by our team of reporters stationed in all parts of the country. In this month we have combined the events of the current Federal States and Somaliland under one report.

Somaliland

January 3, 2016: in Aynbo town a reconciliation meeting concluded. High level Somaliland ministerial delegation conducted extensive talks with elders of one the clans in the sool region. Interior minister of Somaliland Ali Warn Ade in statement said they have successfully solved all the sticking point between Somaliland government and that particular clan.

January 6, 2015: The Somaliland National Elections Commission (NEC) had declared its intention to begin the voter registration for the 2017 Presidential and parliamentary elections in Togdher on January 16th.

Recently, the Commission signed the Electoral Code of Conduct with the three parties, Kulmiye, Waddani and UCID, regarding the ballots, monitors, individual party campaign dates and other issues related to the elections.

January 6, 2016: at least three children killed when landmine they had picked as toy to play exploded in Balli-busle locality of Sool region.

The commissioner of the locality told Goobjoog News that this kind of incident become recurrent in the region.

January 8, 2016: Puntland Tv journalist severely beaten up by unknown assailants in border town of Buhodle.

January 12, 2016: Somaliland president Mohmoud Silanyo accuses Somali Federal Government for undermining the peace and stability of Somaliland. He said they have reliable intelligence information that some official of the federal government are devising plans to disrupt the Somaliland elections registration process.

January 14, 2016: Tributes are being paid to legendary Somali composer, playwright, actor and poet Ali Sugule Egal, who has died at the age of 80. Mr Egal, who founded the Hargeisa Brothers music band, died at his home in the United Arab Emirates on Monday.

January 17, 2016: Somaliland executes three people who were all sentenced to death for murder. The executed people included a women and her son who were convicted killing a mother of five and then buried inside their home.

January 19, 2016: in Buhodle district of sool region residents staged a big demonstrations against Somalialand calling somaliland government to withdraw its troops from sool region.

January 20, 2016: somaliand goverment started deportation campaign against Aromo community in the Somaliland. The move came after the Somaliland government accused the community for taking up employment opportunity from local youth.

Puntland State

January 2, 2016: accountability meeting held in Garowe. Puntland president called ministers of his cabinet to be accountable for the public.

January 8, 2016: Somali Federal President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud arrives the commercial city of Puntland to attend Bossoso airport opening ceremony. Puntland president and number of his government received at Airport.

January 24, 2016: Puntland president arrives in Mogadishu to participate the higher level consultative forum in Mogadishu.

January 25, 2016: Puntland president warns Puntland politicians to politicize the 2016 elections negations. “ I do not want see failed politicians lecturing Puntland people about what I supposed do. I stand what puntland public want from the consultative meeting” said the president.

January 27, 2016: Agreement reached in the consultative meeting as Puntland delegation walkout. Puntland president Abdwali Gas in separate press conference rejected the agreement saying Puntland people wanted better deal.

 

            Southwest State

January 3, 2016: south-west state assembly elects Aweys Hussien Ma’alin the second deputy to the state assembly speaker.

January 4, 2016: roadside blast hits AMISOM convey in Lego locality -100km to west of the capital Mogadishu. No casualties reported.

January 6, 2016: four elders are reportedly killed by Ethopian troops in Bakol region. As according to wacal Media the four men killed one after another. Abdirhamn Abdulahi 65, Adan Abdullahi 50, Mohammad Khayr 55 and Mohamd mukhtar 35.

January 6,-2016: at least 15 people killed and 10 wounded in fierce fight between south west state troops and Alshabab fighters. The fight took place in Goof-god- 30km to the north of Baydibo.

January 11, 2016: famous businessman called Aboukar Haji Hirabe killed in Afgoye. The murder shook the residents of Afgoye. The victim was one of the richest men in the town.

January 18, 2016: Emirate donates 10 vehicles including armor to the southwest state. The United Arab Emirates handed over the donation to the state president Sharif Sh. Adan.

January 19, 2016: Alshabab executes sixty years old man in Kurtuwary for allegedly performing witchcraft to harm people.

January 19, 2016: High ranking Somali government officials including the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, speaker of the National assembly Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, the Prime Minister of the federal republic of Somalia Sharmarke and other international delegates attended the inauguration ceremony in Baidoa.

January 23, 2016:  Kenyan Air-force planes hit Rahole locality in Bay region. There is no immediate causalities reported but officials of southwest state said investigations are underway.

January 23, 2016: displaced families from drought and hardships made their way to Hudur and wajid. The families sought help from Humanitarian organization in the wajid.

January 23, 2016: Three children have died while others have been affected by an outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea villages near Qansanhdere.

January 25, 2016: southwest president annouces his readness to negotiate with founders of uperbakool Adminsitratin. The annoucement came while he was travelling to some villages and districts in the region.

 

Jubbland State

January 2, 2016: Jubbaland president returns back to Kismyo after successful trips to Ethiopia and Kenya. In statement he said he met with leadership of the two respective countries. Among other things fighting against Alshabab fighters dominate the talk he said.

January 3, 2016: at least 5 soldiers killed in Gedo region. The death came as result of fight within the Somali National forces in Gedo region.

January 5, 2016: a company of Ethiopian troops deployed to Kismayo to replace Sierra Leone troops who ended the African Peace keeping Mission participation in Somalia.

January 6, 2016:  Alshabab defector killed in Gedo region. Two armed men with handguns killed Farah Ali Abdi who surrendered himself to government troops in 2015. The assailants managed to escape from  the scene. Alshabab is blamed for the murder.

January 10, 2016: several soldiers stormed a police station in Bardere. At least one solider confirmed dead several othes injured.

January 10, 2015: Galmudg president and Puntland president arrive in Kismayo to participate the high level consultative forum meetings in there.

January 12, 2016: A high-level delegation led by the speaker of Somali parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari has on Tuesday arrived in Kismayo a head of a consultative conference on the 2016 electoral process.

The speaker was warmly welcomes at Kismayo airport by Jubbaland officials and he was escorted to the conference hall, where he will officially open a national forum on 2016 elections later today.

January 13, 2016: President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Kismayo on Wednesday morning to open the National Consultative Forum on 2016 electoral process in Somalia.

January 15, 2016: Fighters from the al-Shabab group have attacked a base for African Union peacekeepers in southwestern Somalia, blasting their way into the compound and exchanging fire with peacekeepers. Dozens of al-Shabab fighters on Friday assaulted the military base, which is run by Kenyan troops who are part of the AU force in the town of El-Ade, not far from the Kenyan border.

January 17, 2016: The National Consultative Forum meeting of Somali leaders has failed to agree on a clear political roadmap and electoral model for Somalia.

January 19, 2016: Kenyan troops retake the control of Elade after a week Alshabab overrun their base and killed large number of its individuals.

January 19, 2016: colonel Adan Ahmed Hirsi of Somali national army officer accused Kenyan troops of indiscriminate shelling against populated civilian quarters in Gedo region.

January 23, 2016: Jubbaland president declares an imminent military operation against Alshabab fighters. “The operation is meant to uproot Alshabab from all the territories of Jubbaland” said the president.

January 24, 2016: Somali National Army officer accused Kenyan troops of summary killings in Gedo region. The officer called Somali Government to do something about what he called indiscriminate killings against innocent civilians.

January 27, 2016: Kenyan troops allegedly killed the commissioner of Elade . Col. Adan Rufle of the Somali National Army said the administrator was arrested by KDF after the attack of Elade.

January 30, 2016: The chief judge of Bardere district wounded by unknown assailants. Sheikh Ibrahim Shacban wounded nearby his residential house in Bardere.

Galmudg State

January 3, 2016: two businessmen killed in Elbour district. the DC of the district blamed the murder to Alshabab.

January 4, 2016: Gunmen tried to assassinate Galmudug’s assistant minister of transport Abdisamad Yusuf Elmi in Mogadishu’s Wabri district on Sunday. Speaking to the media Elmi said that he has survived an assassination attempt by gunmen who attacked his car in the city. “We were surprised by a lot of bullets … Thank God, we managed to escape,” he said.

 

January 7, 2016: Jubaland president Ahmed Mohamed Islam is headed to Adado the interim capital of Galmudug state adminstration.the president is expected to hold talks with Galmudug President Abdikarim Hussein Guleed. An official from Galmudug administration confirmed the preparation to receive President Ahmed and his entourage.

January 9, 2016: at least 20 passengers wounded in horrific car accident in Galgudud region. The accident came after two passenger cars collided while in speeding motion.

January 12, 2016: Galmudg president with several members of his cabinet arrived in Jowhar to attend the opening ceremony of Hiran and Middle Shabelle Federal state establishment conference.

January 20, 2016: residents of Elshil reportedly fled their homes due to imminent attack by Alshabab fighters. The resident fled to near villages and the countryside.

January 24, 2016: Galmudug state announces a plan that it intends to send tens of uniformed policemen to all parts of the state.

January 28, 2016: Gamudug security forces and AMISOM troops attack a village nearby Elbur called Maygaag. The attacking troops killed six members of Alshabab fighters.
