Journalist behind bars for 7 days without judge

A Somali journalist named Karar Adan Rukow has reportedly spending his seventh day behind bars after security forces arrested him in Garbaharay town, elder said.

The security forces accused the journalist of deliberately incitement and provocation reports, according security forces.

There have been calls for the detainee to be charged in accordance with the constitution, which only allows for 24 hours detention without charge.

Speaking to Goobjoog News, Elder Abdirisack Mohamed Osman that the journalist was not yet brought before a court.

20 journalists, known for broadcasting politically sensitive stories were killed by unknown people for last two twenty years.

Hinda Hajji Mohamed who was until her death working with Radio Mogadishu and National Television has succumbed serious seriously injuries she sustained after Improvised explosive device (IED) planted under the driver seat of her car blew up near KM4 road of Mogadishu.

Somalia is considered the most dangerous country on the African continent for journalists. In 2012, the Committee to Project Journalists (CPJ) reported that 12 journalists were killed in Somalia, the second highest in the world after Syria, with most of the killings occurring in Mogadishu.
