Jubaland president promises to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | JUBALAND: The president of Jubaland Ahmed Mohamed Islam has said the war to liberate the Jubaland region from the control of the Al-Shabaab militia group will continue until total peace is realized.

President Islam spoke while inspecting areas liberated from the militants in the lower Juba region such as; Kumbale, Eelcad, Canjeel, Harboole, and Jana-Abdalle which had been under the control of Al-Shabaab for a long time.

He further commended the various military units fighting against the militants in the region saying it is through their sacrifice that Jubaland people are living in peace and said soon, all areas in the region will be liberated.

Jubaland army backed my ATMIS forces with support from the US Africa Command have been fighting to liberate the region and have reported progress even though there is still a relatively strong presence of the Al-Shabaab militants in the region.

The Federal Government of Somalia, which has said it will soon launch the second phase of its fight against the militants have registered great success in the war and government sources report that so far, over 700 militants and their bases taken over by government and regional forces.
