Jubbaland administration accused of holding Somali refugees at Somali-Kenya border

Somali federal MP, Mohamed Hussein Isack has accused Jubbland administration of preventing Somali refugees returning home from Kenya’s Dadaab camp.

Isack said that Jubbaland held over 1000 Somali refugees who were already repatriated at Dhobley transition centre.

“ They (Jubbaland) blocked the refugees returning home from Kenya among those who are hailing from Bay and Bakool region, these people are heading their homes, I don’t the reason as why to prevent someone from his home,”

Jubbalnd authorities in Southern Somalia said they blocked refugees returning home from Kenya as the refugees don’t get the humanitarian aid they needed to be given, one the refugees reach their resettlement areas.

Jubaland’s interior minister Mohamed Warsame Darwish said early this week that inadequate aid for returnees had made officials block their passage.

UN refugee agency signed an agreement with the governments of Kenya and Somalia in November 2013 which outlines the legal framework and other support for Somali refugees in Kenya who were willing to return home but Somali government the tripartite agreement does not actually help the refugees once they are back home.
