Storyline:National News

President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta has called on Somalis to established new competent administration for areas liberated by African peace-keeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

“Seize the opportunity” to move forward.“This is time for Somalia to demonstrate they are ready to build a strong government that controls all territories,” he said.

Paying tribute on Friday to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers killed by Al-Shabaab in El-Adde, the president said Kenya is grateful and will remember to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives to ensure the country is safe:

“We thank God for blessing us with men and women of character…Your mission has saved lives of many Kenyans,” he said.

A week ago Al-Shabab overran AMISOM military base where the group said to have killed over 50 soldiers and captured 12 others.

A number of survivors have however been rescued and flown to Nairobi for treatment including one soldier who was yesterday pulled out alive from a pile of bodies in the camp. A total of 23 bodies have so far been airlifted to Nairobi.

On 21st this month, Kenya’s military chief Gen Samson Mwathethe said the Al-Shabaab commander who led the El-Adde attack, has been killed in an airstrike by KDF warplanes.
