Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon breaks Women’s 1500m world record
      Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

GOOBJOOG NEWS: Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon broke the world record for the women’s 1500 metres at the Florence Diamond League on Friday clocking 3:49.11 seconds.

Ethiopia’s Genzeben Dibaba previously held the record 0f 3:0:07 seconds which she set in Monaco in 2015.

“I’m so excited, so happy, I didn’t expect this. I was expecting a world lead, not a world record, but I’m so grateful,” Kipyegon said to broadcaster RAI.

“As I said today and yesterday everything is possible.”

Kipyegon, considered the greatest ever woman in the discipline with two world and two Olympic titles to her name, crushed the rest of the field in Tuscany.

She finished more than 12 seconds ahead of reigning European champion Laura Muir and Australia’s Jessica Hull.

In the 100 Meter’s Men’s final, fellow Kenyan Fedrinand Omondi who was expected to put up a fierce challenge against World Champion Fred Kerley finished second in the race won by the American.

However, it was an improved performance from Omanyala, who finished third in Rabat last week. Kerley clocked 9.94 seconds, with Omanyala using 10.05 seconds.
