Kenya’s opposition says poll system hacked as Kenyatta poised for win

Opposition presidential contender in Kenya’s elections Raila Odinga has said the electoral results transmission and tallying system was hacked compromising all the electoral results in the country.

Addressing the media in the party’s national tallying centre in Nairobi, Odinga, accompanied by his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and his lawyers said hackers gained entry into the system as from noon Tuesday and manipulated the results in favour of the incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta.

Using the credentials of former ICT manager Chris Msando who was found dead in the city barely a week before the elections, the hackers gained entry into the system and manipulated figures which gave Uhuru a consistent lead, Odinga said.

Kenyatta must go home, Odinga charged accusing him of using hackers to manipulate the polls. All counties were affected in the 12 hour period when the hacking took place, said Odinga. The opposition chief said its tallying of Form 34A indicated it was leading by 8.1 million votes against Kenyatta’s 7.2 million

Kenyatta is currently leading with over 7.7 million opening the lead against Odinga who is second with 6.3 million votes. The opposition NASA had warned early Wednesday the electoral body IEBC had transmitted the results from the Constituency tallying centres without Form 34 A which the law recognises as the official results document.

IEBC is expected to announce the winner today but the dispute could be expected to head to the Supreme Court which is within a 14 period after final announcement of results.
