Kenya’s security forces killed two civilians and injured seven others in Mandera

Two civilians died and seven others injured after soldiers of Kenya Security forces opened fire on Probox vehicle in Mandera, witness said.

The Soldiers opened fire on the car and bystanders today,in what the county leaders termed disaster as it claimed lives of two citizens and injured seven others, according to witness who spoke to Goobjoog News.

“Security forces opened fired on a car with the number plate KBR 269D in the town centre. Two killed and seven  One with critically injuries wounded” One of Mandera residents said.
The shooting set off demonstrations, with local people blocking the highway, the main road from the town centre to county commissioner’s office.

There were differences in some of the accounts of the incident, with the security forces saying the Probox vehicle the victims were travelling in was suspected to be carrying explosives while witnesses and some of authorities blaming the security forces for indiscriminately shooting at civilian vehicle in anger after the Al-Shabab killed two police officers.

Governor of Mandera County said on his twitter “Two dead, three injured under mysterious shooting incident by security forces in Mandera prompting public demonstration”
