Kismayo hotel attacker to face the firing squad

Storyline:National News

One of the suspects in the Kismayo hotel attack that claimed 26 lives has been sentenced to death by a military court in the coastal city.

The military booked Deeqow Aliyow with the firing squad Tuesday after it found him guilty of taking part in the deadly July 12, 2019 attack that also injured 50 people. TV journalist Hodan Naleye and her husband were among those killed in the attack.

Court judge Bashir Mohamed Hared delivered the verdict in the long-running case. Aliyow was among the four suspects behind the attack.

The sentencing comes a day after military courts in Mogadishu and Garowe sentenced six Al-Shabaab militants to 20 years and death for their membership of the outlawed group.
