Landmine explosion kills five soldiers in Lower Shabelle

Five Somali soldiers have died after their vehicle went over a landmine in Tihsile village in the outskirt of Wanlaweyn town of Lower Shabelle, witness said Wednesday.

Residents say the landmine was planted there and went off immediately the military vehicle stepped on the landmine.

“I can confirm that five soldiers have died when a military vehicle hit landmine buried on the roadside,” said a resident who ask anonymity.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack, but  Al Shabaab group is suspected to be behind the bomb attack as the group has previously carried out similar attacks on Somali and AU troops in Somalia.
