Lower House approves Banadir Region representation Act

The Somali lower house parliament has ratified the Banadir Region representation law on Saturday following Parliamentarians debate.

148 MPs attended the meeting, 142 MPs voted for the Act to have the Banadir region, 13 members, in the Senate, 4 MPs rejected while no one has remained silent.

The House is now undergoing a recommendation from the chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission, Halima Yarer, on whether the country can hold elections on 2021.

Formerly 54 members of the regional governments will be added 13 new members making the total number to 67 members in the senate-house.

The Bill passed by the Lower House is expected to approve through the upper house of the Somali Parliament on next week.
