Lower House Speaker Sheikh Madobe meets with EU Special Envoy Annette Weber

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Lower House Speaker Adan Madobe has on Wednesday received in his office, European Union Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Annette Weber accompanied by Ambassador of EU to Somalia Tiina Intelmann. 

The meeting discussed bilateral relations and the European Union’s support to Somalia. The ambassadors reiterated the EU’s commitment to redouble its support for the Somali government. On his part, Speaker Madobe thanked the EU for its continued support to Somalia.

Annette Weber also held a meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia where they discussed strengthening EU-Somalia relations, and aso met with Upper House Speaker with whom they discussed ways in which the EU can support the Upper House in fulfilling its constitutional obligation.

Weber becomes the highest-ranking EU official to visit Somalia since the collapse of Siad Barre’s government in 1991.
