Luck for Kenya police as hyenas fall trap to explosive device

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KENYA:  Two hyenas were killed Monday night in Kenya’s north=east after an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting security personnel went off after the two animals curiously interfered with the explosives

Police in Konto Area of Wajir county said the two carnivores were found dead Friday night at the scene of the blast after police responded to a loud ban which they suspected was an attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab.

Upon arrival at the scene, a police officer said, two hyenas lay dead while wires and explosives devices were strewn around the area. Al-Shabaab has severally laid IEDs targeting Kenyan police and military in Wajir, Garissa and Mandera counties killing several officers.

One security officer was killed and three injured when their vehicle was hit by an IED along the Omarjillo-Arabia Road in Mandera County on Wednesday adding to increasing casualties of Kenyan security forces in the northeastern counties.
